Religious Education (RE) at Abbeymead

We use the Gloucestershire Agreed Syllabus for Relgious Education as the basis for our curriculum. We are currently implementing the new 2025 curriculum and transitioning as a school across the 2025-2026 school year so it's an exciting time for RE here at Abbeymead!

Gloucestershire Agreed Syllabus 2025-2030

"The Gloucestershire syllabus 2025 asserts the importance and value of religious education for all pupils, with on-going benefits for an open, articulate and understanding society.
The principal aim for religious education in Gloucestershire is for pupils to understand how worldviews influence people’s lives, including their own, through the study of religious and non-religious worldviews, so that they better understand themselves and the world around them, and become better equipped to contribute to and flourish in society."

RE Whole School Overview

The 2025 curriculum has three main aims, for our learners to:

  • Understand how religious and non-religious worldviews influence people’s lives.
  • Engage with religious and non-religious worldviews in thoughtful and scholarly ways
  • Understand themselves, and others, and their personal worldviews better

Statement of Curriculum Impact

Children’s ongoing progress is monitored carefully by teachers, Mrs Adkins our RE lead and the senior leadership team. This provides a very clear picture of each child’s strengths and weaknesses and enables teachers to put in additional support or extra challenge where necessary.

A programme of monitoring is in place to inform senior and subject leaders of consistency and progression in learning. This includes:

  • Professional discussion
  • Book Looks
  • Pupil Conferencing
  • Lesson Observations

Harvest Festival - Abbeymead's Great Big Donation!

This wonderful initiative was a fantastic opportunity to bring our whole school community together in support of some really important causes, a time traditionally centered around sharing and giving to those in need.

We collected donations as part of our Harvest celebrations and distributed them to several charities – all chosen by our school community! The charities were

🎉 The Pied Piper Appeal
🎉 Charlie’s Community Support
🎉 Gloucestershire Bundles

The event really was quite incredible… we were overwhelmed with the response to Abbeymead’s Big Donation!! 🌟
The tables were bursting with donations for each of the categories.
THANK YOU SO MUCH to all the families that donated. The items will be greatly received by others less fortunate 💚
The representatives from each charity were so grateful and could hardly fit everything in their vehicles!! 🚗
