Chair of Governors - Mr Knott
The school employers are the Body of Governors. Their constitution is defined in law by Instruments & Articles of Government. They meet as a full Body at least five times a year with much of their work completed in Committees which is then brought back to the Full Governing Body. The Governors are all volunteers.
The body has three primary responsibilities:-
The Governing Body of Abbeymead Primary School is made up of 14 Governors, made up as follows:
2 Parent Governors |
Must be a parent of a child at the school, and not employed there for more than 500 hours or an elected member of the Local Authority. They are elected by parents (unless the number of nominations matches the number of vacancies) and should represent their views. |
1 Local Authority Governor |
They are appointed by the Local Authority, but cannot be anyone who is also eligible to be a Staff Governor. |
1 Staff Governor |
This person should be a member of staff, elected by their peers, but with a free vote on all issues. |
1 Headteacher Staff Governor |
This post is filled by the Headteacher |
9 Co-opted Governor |
This can be any type of Governor. However Co-opted staff cannot, when counted with Head and Staff Governor make up more than one third of the total governing body |

Parents are encouraged to raise matters with their child’s class teacher in the first instance, or a member of the Core Leadership Team. Subsequently, any parent wishing to raise a matter with a member of the Board should do so by emailing chair@abbeymead.gloucs.sch.uk.
