Reading Events
At Abbeymead we want our children to leave us with a thirst for knowledge and a love of literature and reading. We place a large focus on reading for enjoyment and work hard to run events to develop this in all of our pupils.
Abbeymead's Winter Reading Challenge is now live and running until January 31st 2024
How many of the challenges can you complete before January 31st?
Tick each challenge and return your sheet to school (or digitally to Mrs Bradley on deputyhead@abbeymead.glouc.sch.uk) the week starting the 5th February and no later than Monday 12th February to be entered into the reading challenge draw. 1 challenge completed = 1 dojo and 1 ticket for the reading raffle.
Abbeymead's Summer Reading Challenge is now finished: The ABC of Reading: See below for results
In November 2022 we were part of 'The Really Wild Reading Festival' a fantastic week long reading event run by Gloucestershire Schools Partnerships.
As part of this event we were able to connect with a number or authors, in person and online, to inspire the children’s love of reading. We want our children to have a love of literature and understand how authors can inspire them in the future. What better way to encourage reading for pleasure in our school than by having a top-quality author to motivate our students about the joy of reading?
Across this week we had the privilege to host author visits from Sean Taylor and Paul Lyalls and attended an online master class with the current children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho.
