Abbeymead Primary School

Learning Forum

Four children from each year group, (Years 2 to 6 only), are selected by their class peers to be members of the Learning Forum.  These children are chosen by their classmates because they display the necessary skills needed to be successful in team situations (role model behaviour, good turn taking/sharing, good communication etc.).   The children work together as a team to develop and improve our school.

This year, the Learning Forum has been developed so that instead of having one big team which meets every couple of weeks, there are two committees which focus on two different elements of school life.  These committees are ‘Curriculum and Learning’ and ‘School Environment’.  Within these committees there are ministers who have specific responsibilities.  The two committees develop an action plan for the academic year and areas for development are discussed at regular meetings.  The two committees then meet together as the Learning Forum, along with other ‘General Committee Members’.  Ideas from each committee are shared and whole school issues are discussed and addressed.

In order to ensure that everyone is involved in the development of the school, there are representatives for the Reception and Year 1 children.  These representatives ensure that the younger children are informed about decisions that are made and they then have the opportunity to share their own ideas, which are fed back to the relevant committee and are discussed at the next meeting.
